Kenny Westerman, PhD

Kenny Westerman is a computational scientist with an interest in precision nutrition and lifestyle for the prevention of cardiometabolic diseases. Kenny received his PhD in Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition from Tufts University, with a dissertation focused on the prediction of cardiovascular disease risk by integrating genomics, epigenomics, and dietary data. He is now an Instructor at MGH, where his work aims to uncover novel gene-diet interactions and develop molecular predictors of personalized response to diet and other lifestyle factors.

Magdalena Sevilla, PhD

Dr. Magdalena Sevilla-Gonzalez is a postdoctoral fellow at the Clinizal and Translation Epidemiology Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital and a post-doctoral affiliate at Metabolism Program at the Broad Institute. Dr. Sevilla’s research interest lies in the intersection between environmental, genetic data, and multi-omics (metabolomics and gut microbiome) to better understand type 2 diabetes heterogeneity and create precision nutrition approaches. Dr. Sevilla has led clinical translational projects focused on the clinical characterization of Mexican individuals with high genetic risk of metabolic diseases.

Ling Chen, MS

Ling is a senior data analyst and computational geneticist. She received both Master degrees of Science in Genetics and Bioinformatics. She is working on the genome-wide association analyses and gene-environment interaction analyses with the baseline and longitudinal data in the diabetes studies. Problem solving is the key part of her work.

Sarah Hsu, MS

Sarah is a computational biologist interested in applying computational methods to analyze genomic and genetic data in diabetes research. Her current projects focus on understanding type 2 diabetes using omics and genetics approaches as the harmonization of phenotype data from biobanks.

Casey Marchek

Casey is a dedicated Research Coordinator in the Manning Lab that provides essential support across various dimensions of research. He manages administrative tasks, aids in manuscript submissions, and ensures the smooth progression of projects. Casey is a musician and graduate of Berklee College of Music.

Christopher Bryan

Chris is a second-year staff scientist at the Broad Institute and a computational biologist in the Manning Lab. His projects involve designing cloud computing workflows for rare-variant statistical models and administrating the high-performance computing cluster. In his free time, Chris enjoys reading and going to the beach.

Maitreiyi Maheshwari

Maitreiyi is a software developer turned biomedical engineer who works as a computational associate at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Her undergrad degree is in computer science, and she received her master's in biomedical engineering from John Hopkins. Maitreiyi works with the UK biobank to help process data requests (from UKB or phenotype harmonization based on UKB data) for the team. She also work as an analyst for CHARGE consortium-based projects that the team is a part of.
